HOLYOKE — Responding to a tip, Holyoke Police Officers converged on the rear of 462 Maple St. today, where a male suspect discarded a firearm and fled the scene.

The incident was triggered by a Hampden County Sheriff who was on duty serving an eviction notice.

The Sheriff’s unexpected presence startled the suspect, who is believed to be unlicensed to own firearms, leading him to abandon the weapon before escaping.

A brief investigation allowed detectives to recover a loaded polymer 80 ghost gun lacking any serial number.

The recovered firearm was equipped with a high-capacity magazine, designed to hold 30 rounds, and was found containing 18 live rounds.

The Holyoke Police Department has extended gratitude to the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department for their critical role in the removal of the firearm from the community.

As the suspect remains at large, the police have issued an appeal for any information that could lead to his capture.

Authorities have expressed a desire to engage in dialogue with the suspect to educate him on current gun laws and the importance of proper firearm storage.

The investigation into the incident is actively continuing.
