Poultney man killed in head-on collision on College Street

POULTNEY — A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Poultney man and left another driver injured on Dec. 2.

At around 5:26 p.m., Vermont State Police responded to the accident on College Street N near Church Street.

James Mullaney, 68, was pronounced dead at the scene after his northbound 2021 Chrysler Pacifica crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a 2023 Subaru Forester, driven by 23-year-old Emma Kelley of Hampton, NY.

Kelley was wearing her seat belt and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

She was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Mullaney was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and his vehicle was totaled.

Clear weather and dry road conditions were reported, and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Local emergency services, including Poultney Fire Department, Poultney Rescue, Granville Rescue, Hampton Fire Department, and Poultney Town Highway, provided assistance at the scene.
