EAST BROOKFIELD — A porch fire at an East Brookfield home early this morning prompted a large-scale response from several neighboring fire departments, according to local officials.
At 1:17 a.m., the East Brookfield Fire Department, supported by local police, responded to a reported fire at 121 Harrington Ln.
Multiple 911 calls confirmed the residence’s front porch was fully engulfed in flames.
The incident escalated to a second alarm, calling in mutual aid from Brookfield, North Brookfield, West Brookfield, Spencer, and New Braintree fire departments.
The Spencer Rescue Squad also arrived to assist, while Charlton Fire provided station coverage.
Firefighters succeeded in containing the fire to the porch and front section of the house.
However, the residence sustained significant smoke and water damage, leaving it uninhabitable.
The occupants of the home were all able to evacuate without injury.
One firefighter was transported to Harrington Hospital for a leg injury sustained during the operation.
The firefighter is expected to make a full recovery.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, with the East Brookfield Fire Department and Massachusetts Fire District 7 Fire Investigation Unit leading the inquiry.
