Lewiston man arrested for aggravated cocaine trafficking

LEWISTON — A joint operation involving the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Lewiston Police Department resulted in the arrest of a local man for aggravated cocaine trafficking on Nov. 26.

Steven Braggs, 36, was apprehended during a probation compliance check conducted by agents from the MDEA Western District Task Force, Lewiston Police, and United States Probation and Parole officers.

Braggs, who was on supervised release for a 2015 federal conviction of felon in possession of a firearm, was found with 100 grams of cocaine at a Lewiston hotel.

Following his arrest, a search warrant was executed at Braggs’ residence at 114 Wellman Street, leading to the seizure of approximately two kilos (1,878 grams) of cocaine, various trafficking materials, and $25,300 in suspected drug proceeds.

The street value of the confiscated cocaine is estimated at $100,000.

Braggs was booked at the Androscoggin Jail, where he is being held without bail due to a probation hold.

The MDEA continues to prioritize the disruption of drug trafficking organizations within Maine, focusing on the distribution of illicit drugs such as fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
