EDEN — On Nov. 1, Vermont State Police, with the assistance of the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department, responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of VT Route 118 and Warren Road around 6:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Antonio Latona, 46, and Kayla Languerand, 29, both of Eden.

Initially, the pair informed the authorities that Languerand was driving at the time of the accident, which supposedly occurred at 5:30 p.m.

The vehicle, a silver Nissan Frontier, was found to have struck a guardrail and ended up in a ditch, causing damage to property not owned by them.

Further investigation, however, determined that Latona was the actual driver of the Nissan Frontier, and Languerand was not involved in the crash.

Additionally, Latona’s driver’s license required the use of an ignition interlock device, which the vehicle lacked.

Both individuals had knowingly provided false information to the law enforcement officers on the scene in an attempt to mislead the investigation.

Latona and Languerand were issued citations on Nov. 26 to appear at the Lamoille County Superior Court on Jan. 8 at 12:30 p.m. to face charges of providing false information to law enforcement and other related offenses.

Latona is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident and operating a vehicle without the required ignition interlock device.
