DERRY — A burglary at Steven’s Auto Service on West Broadway led to a multi-state police chase and the eventual arrest of a man by Massachusetts State Police on Monday.

The Derry Police Department reported that at 7:24 a.m. on Nov. 25, they received a call about a burglary that occurred at the auto service shop.

The investigation revealed that the burglar gained entry by breaking a window on a door, which allowed access to the lock.

Cash and keys to a Mercedes parked on the lot were stolen, and the vehicle was missing.

Later that morning, at 9:15 a.m., the stolen vehicle was sighted on South Main Street.

When Derry police officers attempted to pursue the Mercedes, the driver sped off northbound and began driving recklessly, especially as the vehicle neared a school zone.

The pursuit was terminated by the officers due to safety concerns.

The Mercedes was last observed heading eastbound on Route 102 toward Chester, prompting Derry police to notify Chester police and send an alert to all New Hampshire police departments.

Massachusetts State Police apprehended the vehicle after a lengthy chase, and a man was taken into custody shortly after 11:15 a.m.

Derry police detectives are now collaborating with Massachusetts authorities to determine the suspect’s involvement in the Derry crimes and what charges may be applicable in Derry.
