SPRINGFIELD — A man was arrested early Wednesday morning after Springfield police responded to a domestic assault call and the suspect allegedly assaulted a law enforcement officer and resisted arrest.

The Springfield Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to Newell Road at approximately 2:56 a.m. following reports of a domestic incident.

The defendant, identified as Michael Mciver, is accused of assaulting the victim during the incident.

As officers attempted to apprehend Mciver, he allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted an officer.

Mciver was taken into custody and received a criminal citation to appear in the Windsor Unit of the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division on Nov. 6 to respond to charges of Domestic Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.

Following the arrest, Mciver was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility with bail set at $1,000 cash or surety.

The Springfield Police Department clarified that decisions regarding bail and incarceration are determined by the Judicial System, which includes Judges, Court Clerks, and the State Attorney’s Office, and not by the police.
