LYNDONVILLE — A three-car crash northbound on I-91 near the St. Johnsbury and Lyndonville town line left two people dead Friday night.
Police say that the preliminary investigation shows that a 2009 Toyota Corolla being driven by Neal Robinson, of Stoddard, New Hampshire, lost control and came to rest sideways in the passing lane.
Another vehicle, being driven by Denis Belanger, of Quebec, collided with Robinson, and also came to rest in the passing lane.
The third vehicle, a Ford Taurus, then struck Belanger’s vehicle. Both the driver and the passenger in the Ford Taurus were killed in the crash. Both victims will be brought to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.
Identification of the deceased is pending notification of next of kin.
The deadly accident took place at around 9 p.m. The Vermont State Police, Lyndonville Police Department, Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles Inspectors, St. Johnsbury Fire Department, and Calex ambulance all responded to the scene.
An investigation into the details of the crash is still ongoing, and anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash is being asked to contact Vermont State Police Trooper Tarricone at 802-748-3111.
That is the most slippery, dangerous section of interstate highway in the SOV. It has been for a number of years, first when they tried to do it on the cheap with recycled pavement, so much so that they were forced to put up signs, and even now after they have just resurfaced it. Condolences to the victims families.
