HARWICH — A house fire reported at 2:36 a.m. today was quickly contained thanks to the swift response of firefighters from several local towns.
The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call regarding a fire at a residence on Drum Lane.
A first alarm assignment was dispatched, with fire companies from Harwich, Chatham, Brewster and Dennis rushing to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a small fire in the exterior wall of the home’s garage.
The homeowner was already attempting to control the flames using a garden hose.
Firefighters deployed a 1 3/4” hoseline to extinguish the remaining fire and overhauled the area to prevent re-ignition.
Thanks to the rapid response, the fire did not spread beyond the garage wall, and no further damage to the house was reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the fire department, but early indications suggest it is not suspicious in nature.
Fire crews were on scene for approximately 50 minutes to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and the area was safe.
The Harwich Police Department also provided assistance during the incident.
