CONCORD — An emergency landing at Concord Municipal Airport left a pilot unscathed Wednesday.
State Troopers from the Troop D barracks were called to the scene shortly before 11 a.m. today, where they discovered a two-seater experimental light-sport aircraft resting in a grassy area adjacent to a fence on Regional Drive.
Concord Fire Department personnel were already assessing the pilot’s condition upon their arrival.
The initial investigation suggested that soon after takeoff, a door on the aircraft unexpectedly opened.
The pilot, Dana Clow, 71, of Hillsborough, was unable to secure the door, leading to compromised aerodynamics that resulted in the aircraft entering a continuous left turn.
Clow successfully navigated the plane back over the airfield, managing a safe emergency landing north of a taxiway, albeit with damage to the aircraft’s landing gear.
New Hampshire State Police have collected preliminary facts to assist the New Hampshire Department of Transportation Bureau of Aeronautics and the Federal Aviation Administration, who are set to take over the investigation.
