Falmouth man faces multiple charges after fleeing traffic stop, crashing vehicle

FALMOUTH — A routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase and ended in a crash on Homestead Lane on Monday night.

Elijah Williams, 28, of Falmouth, was arrested after leading police on a pursuit that ended when he crashed his vehicle in front of 178 Menauhant Road.

The incident began at approximately 8:50 p.m. when Falmouth Police officers stopped Williams for speeding on Homestead Lane.

During the stop, officers noticed narcotics paraphernalia in the car.

Williams refused to exit the vehicle when instructed and sped away as officers tried to open the door.

A nearby patrol unit saw Williams’ vehicle speeding down Maravista Avenue at an estimated 80 mph and passing Teaticket Elementary School, but halted the pursuit due to safety concerns.

Shortly after, Williams crashed his vehicle and tried to escape on foot but was apprehended by the authorities.

He faces charges including Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Police, Leaving the Scene of Property Damage, Speeding, Failure to Stop, Marked Lanes Violation, and Possession of a Class B Drug.

Williams was released on personal recognizance after his arrest.

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Identification processed the scene of the crash.

The Falmouth Police Department is investigating the incident.
