Man charged with assault after bar fight in St. Johnsbury

ST. JOHNSBURY — A local man was charged with simple assault following a late-night altercation outside a bar on Eastern Avenue earlier this month, police said.

William Ware, 46, of Burke, was involved in a dispute that escalated into a fight involving 8-10 people at the Whiskey Den, according to the St. Johnsbury Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene at 36 Eastern Avenue around 1:24 a.m. on Nov. 10 after receiving reports of the brawl.

Upon arrival, police found a group of about eight individuals arguing outside the establishment.

Several participants alleged they had been assaulted.

After conducting interviews with multiple witnesses, authorities determined that Ware had assaulted more than one person during the incident.

Ware turned himself in at the police department on Nov. 18, where he was fingerprinted and subsequently released on a citation.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Caledonia Superior Court on Dec. 23 at 8:30 a.m.

The court has confirmed that action will be taken in this case.

Ware was not lodged in jail and no bail has been set.
