Barre City man charged with sexual assault, luring a minor

BARRE CITY — A local man surrendered to Vermont State Police on Nov. 18, facing charges of sexual assault, luring a child and contributing to juvenile delinquency following an investigation into a report of a sexual assault at a Barre City apartment.

Joel Bonano, 32, turned himself in at the Berlin Barracks at 2:30 p.m. after an investigation that began on Jan. 20 into allegations at his residence at 17 Plain Street Apt. 3.

According to police, Bonano sexually assaulted a female under the age of 16, who was known to him, and provided her with alcohol and marijuana.

Following his surrender, Bonano was fingerprinted, photographed, and issued a citation to appear at the Washington Superior Court Criminal Division on Dec. 12 to respond to the charges.

He was released subsequently.

The Vermont State Police do not release the names of victims of sexual assault or domestic violence.

Further details on the case are pending the court proceedings.
