WORCESTER — A Worcester police officer’s routine paid detail led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man with outstanding warrants and the seizure of multiple firearms, including AR-style rifles, on Nov. 15.
Caleb Dayton, who had four outstanding warrants for offenses such as carjacking, larceny, breaking and entering, and drug violations, was spotted by the officer around 11:30 a.m. entering a Vinson St residence.
Dayton was also identified as not having a valid driver’s license.
After confirming Dayton’s warrants, police set up surveillance and apprehended him as he tried to re-enter the home.
During the arrest, officers found Dayton carrying a large black Tec-9 firearm without a carrying license.
A subsequent search warrant for the residence uncovered several AR-platform rifles, a shotgun, an additional handgun, and a substantial quantity of ammunition.
Dayton now faces charges including multiple counts of unlawfully carrying a firearm, possession of a large capacity firearm and feeding device, improper storage of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, armed career criminal level 1, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
