HYDE PARK — A 17-year-old driver was seriously injured Thursday morning when their Toyota Tacoma crashed and slid down a steep hill off Garfield Road, trapping them inside the wrecked vehicle.
The Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department received a distress call at about 8:10 a.m. reporting the single-vehicle accident.
The teen, whose name has not been released, was unable to escape the 2009 model truck due to significant damage and entrapment.
Emergency personnel from the Hyde Park and Morrisville Fire Departments, Northern Emergency Medical Services (NEMS), and the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department worked collectively at the challenging scene to extricate the victim.
After roughly two hours, the fire department teams successfully freed the teenager, who was then tended to by NEMS staff at the scene and stabilized for transport.
The Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART) was alerted, subsequently landing their helicopter at Copley Hospital to airlift the injured driver for further medical attention.
Sheriff Roger Marcoux extended his gratitude and commendations to all the rescue services involved for their dedicated efforts and emphasized the critical role their skilled staff played in the operation’s success.
