WATERBURY — In a series of operations over the past week, Waterbury Police Department officers arrested several individuals in connection with stolen motor vehicles, marking a period of intensified efforts to tackle vehicle theft in the city.
On Nov. 7, at 1:42 p.m., police identified and pursued a stolen black Nissan Armada on Dorchester Ave.
The car was occupied by two Waterbury residents, Jerry Acosta, 32, and Wanda Perez, 67.
Acosta now faces charges including Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (1st Offense) and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License.
Perez has been charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (1st Offense).
The string of arrests continued on Nov. 11, when, at 9:04 a.m., officers stopped a stolen 2004 Ford Econoline at the intersection of Grove St. and Willow St. The driver, Jeffery Fennelly, 40, of Watertown, CT, was found in possession of drug paraphernalia and crack cocaine.
Fennelly, with a criminal history that includes over 20 larceny arrests, burglary, robbery, assaults, and an assault on an officer, has been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (2nd Offense), Drug Paraphernalia, among other charges.
He was wanted on a warrant for Violation of Probation and is currently held on a $67,500 bond at the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
The latest incident occurred on Nov. 12 at 4:38 p.m. when a red Hyundai Elantra, reported stolen, was spotted on Union St. Arrested were Juan Luis Angueira, 25, and Joely Padilla-Nunez, 22, both from Waterbury.
Angueira’s charges include Misuse of Marker Plates, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (1st Offense), Interfering with an Officer, among others, and he was also found to have a Violation of Parole warrant.
He is currently in the custody of the CT Department of Corrections.
Padilla-Nunez has been charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle (1st Offense).
