Waterbury man arrested, accused of operating a drug factory

WATERBURY — A Waterbury man was taken into custody late Monday night after police discovered a variety of illegal items in his vehicle during a routine patrol.

Waterbury police officers were patrolling the area of Willow Street and Arch Street around 10:25 p.m. when they noticed a suspicious vehicle that was parked and unregistered.

The operator, who was initially found asleep behind the wheel, was identified as 36-year-old Kawoine Bell of Waterbury.

Upon searching the vehicle, officers seized $293 in U.S. currency, 50 glassine bags of cocaine prepared for sale, and three cellphones.

Bell was arrested on multiple charges, including operating a drug factory, misuse of a marker plate, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

He was also charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell.

Bell is currently being held on an $80,000 bond and is in the custody of the Connecticut Department of Corrections pending further legal proceedings.
