GREENWICH — Police have arrested a New York man in connection with a stolen vehicle at the Riverside Commons Shopping Center in May.

On May 2, the Greenwich Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle theft after two male suspects engaged the vehicle’s owner and passenger while they were parked at the McDonald’s on E Putnam Avenue.

The suspects requested help charging their phone and asked for a ride to a nearby train station.

After gaining entry into the vehicle under the pretense of needing assistance, the group drove to the Riverside Shopping Center.

The vehicle owner exited to visit a store, and the suspects then coerced the passenger to leave the car before fleeing the scene.

An extensive investigation led to the identification of Gregory Jefferson from The Bronx, NY, as one of the suspects.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Jefferson on multiple charges, including Risk of Injury to a Child, Burglary 1st Degree, Larceny 1st Degree, Robbery 2nd Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, and related conspiracy charges.

Jefferson was apprehended in New York, and Greenwich Police completed extradition paperwork.

On Nov. 7, officers took custody of Jefferson at the George R. Vierno Center on Riker’s Island and returned him to Connecticut.

Jefferson’s bond has been set at $175,000, and he is awaiting judicial proceedings on the charges.
