TISBURY — Police are urging residents to secure their vehicles, homes, and outbuildings following a series of car break-ins in the area.
According to the Tisbury Police Department, the recent incidents involved vehicles that were left unlocked.
Authorities advise the community not to leave valuables in their cars and to ensure all property is locked.
In case of a vehicle break-in, residents are instructed not to touch anything to allow detectives and officers to process the scene for evidence.
The police have reported success in lifting fingerprints from some of the affected vehicles and items left behind.
These prints are currently being processed in an effort to identify the perpetrators.
In a statement, the Tisbury Police Department emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation. “Spread the word to friends and neighbors.
We are actively patrolling neighborhoods all evening, but with your help, we can make it more difficult for them to succeed,” the statement read.
The department is determined to prevent further incidents and is actively patrolling the area.
They also remind residents to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the Dukes County Sheriff’s Office at (508) 693-1212 for immediate dispatch of an officer.
