HAMPTON — The Hampton Police Department is investigating a collision involving a pick-up truck and a pedestrian that occurred on Lafayette Road near Depot Square on Nov. 11 at approximately 5:15 p.m.

Officers dispatched to the scene found a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado had struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the street.

The pedestrian, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to the hospital by Hampton Fire & Rescue.

The driver of the Silverado was cooperative with investigators.

The initial investigation revealed that the pedestrian had left a nearby establishment and attempted to cross Lafayette Road to the west side, not using the marked crosswalk.

The truck, traveling northbound in the correct lane, hit the pedestrian just south of the crosswalk.

The pedestrian was moved to just north of the crosswalk by the force of the impact.

After a thorough review, authorities determined no charges would be filed against the driver at this time.

The identities of those involved are currently withheld as the investigation continues.

The Hampton Police Department emphasizes the importance of using marked crosswalks for pedestrian safety and reminds drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and be alert in congested areas.

Lafayette Road was closed for about three hours between the High Street traffic lights and Swain Court during the investigation.

Assistance was provided by Hampton Fire & Rescue and the New Hampshire State Police.
