Man charged in moped crash with toddler onboard in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE — A man faces multiple charges following a moped accident that injured an 18-month-old child, police said.

Authorities were called to the scene at the intersection of Spring Street and Dixon Street on Nov. 10 at around 9:30 p.m. after a moped collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle.

Authorities found 31-year-old Charles Fenwick with a leg injury and a witness holding the toddler who had been a passenger on the moped.

The child was immediately transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, while Fenwick was taken to Newport Hospital, and then to Rhode Island Hospital for further treatment.

Fenwick was charged with child endangerment, DUI resulting in serious bodily injury, reckless driving, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, according to Lieutenant Joseph C.
