Nationwide scam claims NYPD officer missing, hits Maine community groups

1 min read

CLINTON — A scam alert has been issued by the Clinton Maine Police Department after a fraudulent post claiming that an NYPD officer was missing circulated in community groups across the country, including Maine.

The post, which originally appeared in an Oxford community group, falsely reported that Officer Jonathon Diller was missing from Oxford.

However, the Clinton police clarified that Officer Diller was in fact a member of the New York Police Department and tragically lost his life in the line of duty during a traffic stop on March 25.

Officer M. Conners of the Clinton Maine Police Department has urged the public not to share the misleading post, emphasizing that it is spreading misinformation.

Authorities are reminding residents to verify the authenticity of such posts and to rely on official sources for information regarding law enforcement officers and their status.
