HOLYOKE — An off-duty detective’s sharp eye led to the arrest of an 18-year-old after a stolen vehicle, involved in an earlier carjacking, crashed into parked trailers Thursday evening.

Detective Goulding was on his way home when he noticed the stolen vehicle, immediately relaying its location to fellow officers.

Attempts to stop the car were futile as the driver, later identified as Yandel Jimenez, failed to yield to police.

The pursuit ended abruptly when the vehicle collided with several U-Haul trailers at the corner of Essex and Nick Cosmos.

Jimenez was apprehended shortly after on Newton Street.

Jimenez is facing a slew of charges including failure to stop for police, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm without an FID card, negligent operation, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of property damage.
