NORTHAMPTON — Fire crews are entering the final stages of suppressing a brush fire at Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area, with efforts today focused on extinguishing thousands of remaining hot spots.
Although the fire is no longer spreading, Northampton Fire Rescue will continue work tomorrow to tackle additional hot spots and prevent rekindling.
Residents in the surrounding areas might still notice or smell light smoke; however, smoke levels are expected to be significantly reduced.
This update is expected to be the last regular briefing as the main challenge now is controlling the remaining hot spots.
Northampton Fire Rescue will provide another update once all hot spots are fully extinguished and the fire is officially declared out.
The department has expressed gratitude to the community for its patience, understanding, and support during this time.
The encouragement from residents has played a vital role in supporting the teams managing the incident on the ground.
