Somersworth man charged with DUI after crashing into house

SOMERSWORTH — A Somersworth man has been charged with driving under the influence after his vehicle crashed into a residence on Blackwater Road, police said.

The Somersworth Police Department responded to the incident on Nov. 2 at the address of 1 Blackwater Road.

Jeremy Phillips, 34, of Berwick, Maine, lost control of his 2012 Jeep Liberty while attempting to turn onto Blackwater Road from High Street.

Phillips’ vehicle collided with a 2006 Nissan X-Terra, jumped a median, and subsequently crashed into a house.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered Phillips unconscious inside his vehicle.

He was promptly transported to Wentworth Douglas Hospital for treatment.

Investigating officers developed probable cause to believe Phillips was operating the vehicle while impaired by a chemical or other substance.

He was charged with one count of driving under the influence and released on personal recognizance pending an arraignment scheduled for Nov. 13 at Dover District Court.

The case remains under investigation as authorities await laboratory analysis to determine the specific substance(s) that may have impaired Phillips’ driving ability.

The Somersworth Police Department is seeking information from the public regarding the crash.
