BARRE — A Burlington man was charged with sexual assault and cruelty to a child following an incident that took place on Interstate 89, according to Vermont State Police.
The investigation, which began on April 26, focused on a reported sexual assault in a vehicle traveling southbound on I-89 in the town of Berlin.
Authorities established probable cause that Raj Adhikari, 32, of Burlington, had sexually assaulted a woman he knew while two children were present.
Adhikari turned himself in at the Williston Barracks on Nov. 5, where he was processed and issued a citation to appear at the Washington Superior Court Criminal Division on Dec. 12.
Following the procedure, he was released.
The Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations at the Berlin Barracks is handling the ongoing investigation.
In accordance with their policy, the names of the victims of sexual assault or domestic violence have not been released.
