TEWKSBURY — Two individuals were arrested and charged with a litany of offenses early Sunday morning by the Tewksbury Police Department, Chief Ryan Columbus announced.
Luis De Jesus, age 39, of Lawrence, faces multiple charges including operating under the influence (second offense), trafficking in fentanyl, cocaine, and a class D drug, possession of a class B drug, carrying a dangerous weapon (two counts), and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
Keishla Soto, age 34, of Lowell, was also arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer (four counts), resisting arrest, possession of a class B drug, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and carrying a firearm without a license.
The incident occurred on Sunday, Nov. 3, at approximately 2:07 a.m. near St. Mary’s Cemetery on 90 River Road.
Police responded to a call and discovered a blue Honda Civic parked at the rear of the cemetery with a male and a female outside the vehicle.
The individuals re-entered the car as officers approached and identified the driver as De Jesus, noting the smell of alcohol and an open case of beer in the backseat.
Following a field sobriety test, De Jesus was arrested without incident.
A search revealed he was carrying $3,130 in cash and brass knuckles.
Soto became confrontational and resisted arrest as officers detained De Jesus.
Soto’s behavior continued to be aggressive during the booking process, where she made physical contact with officers.
A handgun and ammunition were found in her belongings.
A search of the Civic uncovered drugs including cocaine, crack cocaine, and a significant amount of fentanyl, as well as marijuana, Suboxone strips, Adderall pills, and counterfeit money.
De Jesus and Soto are scheduled for arraignment in Lowell District Court on Monday, Nov. 4.
