PINKHAM’S GRANT — A man was killed in a collision involving two vehicles on New Hampshire Route 16 near Pinkham’s Grant on Saturday evening.

State Troopers from Troop F responded to reports of an accident at approximately 5:45 p.m. near 467 Route 16.

Upon arrival, they discovered a sedan had collided with an SUV.

The New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit was dispatched to the scene to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze, operated by Mark Taillon of Gorham, was heading north when it crossed the double solid yellow lines and struck a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban traveling in the opposite direction.

The Suburban’s driver, 77-year-old Peter Canty of Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Taillon sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The crash resulted in the closure of Route 16 in both directions for around four hours as authorities worked to clear debris and conduct their investigation.

Personnel from Troop E, Gorham Police and Fire Departments, Jackson Fire Department, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner assisted at the scene.

As the investigation continues, officials are urging witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to contact Trooper First Class Daniel Quartulli at [email protected] or call (603) 223-8993.
