MANCHESTER — Police apprehended a 37-year-old man on Oct. 30 after a burglary attempt turned into a standoff in a Manchester neighborhood.
The incident began at approximately 9:15 a.m. when officers were dispatched to a home on Scenic Drive.
The homeowner reported that a man had followed her into her garage.
She managed to drive away and close the garage door, preventing the man from pursuing her further.
Upon arrival, Manchester police opened the garage but did not locate the suspect.
Meanwhile, officers noticed a man in a second-floor window of the residence.
After gaining entry to the house through the garage, police called out to the man, urging him to come downstairs.
The suspect, however, slammed the door shut, refusing to comply.
SWAT team members were called to the scene and commanded the man to exit the second-floor bedroom.
When he failed to respond, they breached the room and found him hiding in the bathroom.
Despite the use of a less lethal munition and deployment of a K9 unit, the suspect resisted and grabbed the barrel of a rifle from one of the officers.
The officer maintained control of the weapon throughout the altercation.
The suspect was identified as Abdourahmane Dieng, a Manchester resident without a set address.
Dieng, who was out on bail for a previous assault charge from July, now faces charges of burglary, resisting arrest, and attempting to take a gun from a law enforcement officer.
