WORCESTER — A Worcester man was taken into custody Monday after allegedly trying to snatch a woman’s purse on Main Street, according to the Worcester Police Department.
On Oct. 28, at around 11:10 a.m., officers were called to the 300 block of Main Street for a reported robbery in progress.
Witnesses told police a man had struck a female and tried to steal her purse.
Bystanders intervened, chasing the assailant southward on Main Street.
The suspect, described as having shoved the woman from behind and persistently attempting to rob her, was sighted by police at approximately 11:20 a.m. near 660 Main St.
Jake Cross, 40, was identified by officers as the alleged perpetrator, matching the description and corroborated by video evidence.
Cross faces charges including Aggravated Assault and Battery on a person over 60 years old and Unarmed Assault with Intent to Rob.
