BOSTON — Boston Police officers arrested a 21-year-old man on firearm charges early Monday after a traffic stop in the Dorchester neighborhood.
At about 2:48 a.m., officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) were addressing community complaints about noisy cars congregating on Jewish War Veterans Drive.
As police arrived, they saw a group of people quickly getting into an illegally parked vehicle.
Despite commands to stop, the driver reversed and maneuvered around the patrol car.
Officers then activated their emergency lights and sirens, successfully stopping the vehicle near Franklin Park Road.
After requesting identification from all occupants, the officers ordered them to exit the vehicle.
A pat frisk led to the discovery of a loaded Smith and Wesson M&P Shield on one of the rear passengers, identified as Joshua Smith of Boston.
Smith was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
