HINESBURG — Two Hinesburg residents were arrested Wednesday morning after police recovered a stolen vehicle and discovered multiple stolen items, including a firearm.

Anthony Seagroves, 32, and Katelynn Cannon, 28, were taken into custody following a brief standoff at a residence on Richmond Road, authorities said.

Officers from the Hinesburg and Richmond police departments responded to the intersection of Jourdan and Wile streets at 6:56 a.m. after receiving a report of a recovered stolen vehicle.

The vehicle’s owner told police they had confronted two individuals inside the car before the suspects fled.

A search of the vehicle yielded several stolen items, including a firearm and suspected illicit drugs, according to police.

Using security camera footage, officers tracked the suspects to 827 Richmond Road.

After initially refusing to exit, both Seagroves and Cannon eventually surrendered and were arrested.

Seagroves faces charges of illegal firearm possession, violation of release conditions, receiving stolen property, and unlawful trespass.

He was held at Northwest Correctional Facility on $2,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Chittenden County Superior Court at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 24.

Cannon was released with a citation to appear in court Dec. 5 on charges of violating release conditions, aggravated operation without owner’s consent, unlawful trespass, and resisting arrest.

Police said they recovered additional items believed to be stolen but not yet reported.

The investigation is ongoing, with both departments collaborating on several break-ins in Richmond.

Authorities also linked Seagroves to a June 9 crash in Richmond, where a vehicle struck a residence on East Hill Road.

He may face additional charges of grossly negligent operation and leaving the scene of an accident, pending further investigation.
