PETERBOROUGH — Police arrested a man Friday night after a domestic violence call escalated into an armed confrontation with officers, ending with a K9 unit subduing the suspect in the woods behind Prescott Hill Apartments.
At about 8:40 p.m., Peterborough Police responded to the disturbance.
Officers established that an assault had taken place and the suspect, still potentially armed with a knife, had fled into the nearby woods.
K9 Queso was dispatched and quickly located the suspect, Jerrid Parent, 32, of Peterborough, who was hiding behind a rock.
Despite initial noncompliance, Parent confronted the officers, drawing an object from his hip and charging at them.
K9 Queso intervened, knocking Parent to the ground.
The suspect began to strike the dog but was eventually subdued and taken into custody with the help of the officers on scene.
Parent, who had an active electronic bench warrant for his arrest, was assessed by the Peterborough Ambulance and declined hospital transport.
He was held on preventative detention and transported to Valley Street Jail, facing multiple charges including Domestic Violence – Simple Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Resisting Arrest, Interference with Police Dogs, and Criminal Threatening.
Chief of Police Scott M. Guinard commended the collaboration of multiple agencies, including the Greenfield, Jaffrey, Hillsborough, and New Ipswich Police Departments, New Hampshire Fish and Game, and the Peterborough Ambulance, for their assistance during the incident.
The department confirmed that K9 Queso, the officers involved—Lieutenant Xenakis, Sergeant Sweeney, Officer Stone, and Officer Reichl—and the suspect all emerged from the altercation without injuries.
