AVON — A local man surrendered to police Wednesday morning in connection with a road accident earlier this year that left one woman dead.

Timothy Preiser, 63, turned himself in at Avon Police Department at 6:15 a.m. on an active arrest warrant related to the deadly collision that occurred on Feb. 20.

According to authorities, Preiser was driving a Chevrolet Malibu north on Waterville Road when he veered into the opposite lane and struck a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Jill Ayers.

Ayers succumbed to her injuries from the crash.

Preiser faces charges of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle, traveling unreasonably fast, and failure to drive in the proper lane under Connecticut’s General Statutes 14-222a, 14-218a, and 14-236 respectively.

Following his surrender, Preiser was held on a $245,000 bond before being transported to Hartford Superior Court later the same day.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 6.

The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Team was commended by the Avon Police Department for their detailed investigation into the fatal incident, along with the assistance provided by the Hartford State’s Attorney Office.
