Two-vehicle crash on I-91 in Hartford leaves one seriously injured

HARTFORD — A two-vehicle collision on Interstate 91 north near the exit 12 off-ramp resulted in serious injuries for a Norwich man on Oct. 21.

The crash occurred at about 10:55 a.m. when a 2013 Chrysler 300, driven by Joseph Trottier, 78, of Hartford, struck a parked box truck on the right shoulder of the highway.

Peter Griggs, 69, from Norwich, the operator of the 2017 Isuzu box truck, was outside his vehicle at the time and suffered serious injuries after being hit by his own truck upon impact.

Hartford Fire and Rescue and Police, along with state troopers, responded to the scene.

The sedan was found up a bank to the right side of the roadway, while the box truck remained on the shoulder, both vehicles totaled.

Trottier sustained minor injuries in the crash and was wearing his seat belt at the time.

Griggs was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries sustained during the incident.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and witnesses are urged to come forward with any information.
