Lowell, MA man arrested with fentanyl, crack cocaine in Highlands

LOWELL — Members of the Lowell Police Department’s Special Investigation Section and the Massachusetts State Police Special Investigations Unit arrested an adult male on Oct. 19 during an investigation in the Highlands neighborhood.

The joint operation led to the discovery of 158 grams of fentanyl and 15 grams of crack cocaine.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was charged with trafficking fentanyl over 100 grams and possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute.

The Lowell Police Department has been actively engaged in efforts to combat the opioid crisis, which has hit Massachusetts hard in recent years.

Fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, has been a significant contributor to overdose deaths in the state.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be made available as the case progresses.

The suspect is currently being held pending arraignment.
