BIDDEFORD — A Biddeford residence was set ablaze early Sunday morning following a reported burglary, leading to the arrest of a man on arson charges, according to the Biddeford Police Department.
At approximately 12:41 a.m. on Oct. 20, the Biddeford Regional Communications Center received several 911 calls about a burglary in progress on Proctor Road.
Police officers arrived within minutes to find the home’s attached garage fully engulfed in fire.
The residents had safely evacuated.
The Biddeford Fire Department, aided by neighboring fire departments, responded to combat the blaze.
Biddeford Police detectives, an evidence technician, and the Maine State Fire Marshal were called to investigate the incident.
The investigation revealed that Richard Olin, 42, had driven his vehicle through the garage door to enter the property.
Olin was found on Proctor Road and arrested without incident.
The Maine State Fire Marshal charged Olin with one count of Arson, a Class A crime.
He was taken to the York County Jail and is being held without bail.
Authorities thanked the Biddeford Fire Department, Biddeford Public Works, the Maine State Fire Marshal’s office, and the assisting fire departments for their support in managing the situation.
