1 min read

BIDDEFORD — A multi-department response to a structure fire early Sunday morning at 34 Proctor Road led to the arrest of a Saco man on charges of arson and burglary.

The Biddeford Fire and Police Departments were assisted by teams from Saco, Old Orchard Beach, Goodwins Mills, Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel, and Scarborough in battling the blaze that was reported in the early hours of Oct. 20.

The Office of State Fire Marshal (FMO) was requested to investigate the fire’s origin.

Following the investigation, FMO Investigators in partnership with the local police and fire departments identified 42-year-old Richard Olin as the suspect responsible for the fire.

Olin was found at the scene and detained by authorities.

Olin, who is from Saco but did not reside at the Proctor Road address, was familiar with the home’s occupants.

He has been arrested and charged with one count of arson and one count of burglary.

He is being held at York County Jail without bail and is slated for his initial court appearance on Monday.

Although the residents were at home during the incident, they managed to escape without harm.

No injuries were reported due to the fire.

The house sustained significant damage, and the garage was completely destroyed.

The FMO has suggested that additional charges may be filed against Olin as the investigation continues.
