Bear cub spotted in Sanford residential area, authorities plan response

1 min read

SANFORD — Residents near Lebanon Street and Twombley Road were alerted to the presence of a bear cub, estimated to weigh between 30-40 pounds, according to the Sanford Maine Police Department.

Authorities issued a notice to the community on Monday, urging caution as the Maine Game Wardens were made aware of the situation and are currently developing a plan to address the bear’s presence in the residential area.

Officials have not reported any aggressive behavior from the cub, but they advise residents to keep a safe distance and secure their trash cans, as bears are often attracted to food waste.

Further updates will be provided as the game wardens progress with their plan to ensure the safety of both the residents and the young bear.
