Waterbury police arrest felon after shots fired, recover loaded firearm

WATERBURY — Officers from the Waterbury Police Department apprehended a suspect early Thursday following reports of gunfire outside a Baldwin Street residence.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Oct. 17, police were dispatched to 1211 Baldwin Street after receiving calls about shots being fired.

Upon arrival, they found evidence of gunshots and began a search for the suspect.

Devon Abney, 32, a convicted felon, was arrested after a short foot chase.

A loaded firearm, suspected to be the one used during the incident, was seized by the officers.

Investigations indicate that an altercation near the home led to the gunfire, with one bullet striking a window of an occupied bedroom.

No injuries were reported.

Abney, who is barred from possessing firearms due to prior felony convictions involving firearms and narcotics, is now facing charges that include Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Pistol/Revolver, and Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree among other offenses.
