TAMWORTH— A man has been charged after allegedly threatening staff at a local Division of Motor Vehicles office, state police said.

The incident occurred Tuesday at the DMV branch in Tamworth, where Edmund Therrien, Jr., 64, of Meredith, was reported to have made a threatening statement that morning before departing the facility.

According to witnesses, Therrien became agitated with DMV employees and threatened to return with a firearm.

State Troopers from Troop E and Troop G, who were alerted to the situation, collaborated with DMV officials to identify Therrien.

Later that day, at around 1:10 p.m., DMV staff alerted the nearby troopers that Therrien had come back and was sitting inside the branch.

Troopers promptly apprehended Therrien without any disturbances.

Following his arrest, Therrien was charged with criminal threatening.

He was processed, bailed out, and is now banned from entering any New Hampshire DMV offices as per a no-trespass order.

Authorities are encouraging anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Trooper Alexa Williamson at (603) 223-8838 or by email at [email protected].
