WATERBURY — Police apprehended two suspects late Tuesday night when a stolen vehicle collided with a police cruiser and another car on West Main Street.
At approximately 9:53 p.m., officers from the Waterbury Police Department stopped a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, reported stolen from New Haven.
According to authorities, the vehicle reversed into the police cruiser and struck another car before coming to a halt.
The passenger, identified as 22-year-old Amari Harris of Waterbury, was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and interfering with an officer.
Harris was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 29.
The driver, a 17-year-old male from Hartford whose name has not been released due to his age, faces multiple charges including larceny of a motor vehicle, criminal trover in the first degree, criminal mischief in the first degree, interfering with an officer, reckless endangerment in the first degree, engaging police in pursuit, and various motor vehicle offenses.
Additionally, the juvenile was wanted in connection with the homicide of 18-year-old Joseph Zavala on Nov. 18.
He has now been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, murder, carrying a pistol without a permit, and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
The Waterbury Police Department praised the officers involved for their successful efforts in apprehending the suspects and ensuring the safety of the community.
