Derby police seek public’s help in locating missing shotgun

DERBY — Vermont State Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a shotgun that went missing on the night of Oct. 11.

Authorities were notified of the missing firearm at approximately 1:18 p.m. on Oct. 12, after the owner reported it last seen on the back of a vehicle.

The shotgun is believed to have slid off the vehicle and onto the roadway while the owner was traveling west from Salem View Heights towards the Newport Country Club in Newport.

Investigators have yet to determine the exact location where the shotgun may have been lost and are eager to recover the weapon to ensure public safety.

The Vermont State Police urge anyone with information about the missing shotgun or who may have seen something suspicious in the area to contact the Derby Barracks at 802-334-8881.
