BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a Malden man early Monday after responding to reports of gunfire and a large fight downtown.

At about 3 a.m., officers assigned to District A-1 were dispatched to the vicinity of 100 Warrenton Street following a report of a large altercation.

While en route, they received additional information about shots fired inside a parking garage at 270 Tremont Street.

Upon arrival, police were given a description of a suspect vehicle parked outside the garage.

They located the vehicle with its front passenger door open.

When officers approached the vehicle and asked the occupants to exit, the passenger, later identified as Davon Olaes, 36, fled on foot.

During the chase, Olaes discarded a firearm before tripping and being apprehended by officers.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a box of .22 caliber ammunition.

The discarded firearm was recovered and identified as a DB9 Diamondback, loaded with one round in the chamber and two in the magazine.

A subsequent search of the parking garage revealed ballistic evidence, including multiple spent shell casings, but no victims were found.

Olaes faces charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, and Two Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

He is slated for arraignment at Boston Municipal Court.
