STAMFORD — Stamford Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred at 690 Atlantic St. at approximately 11:52 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11.
Patrol officers and first responders arrived at the scene to find an SUV that had collided with a utility pole.
The vehicle’s airbags had deployed upon impact.
The driver, a 71-year-old New York resident, was unresponsive at the time of the officers’ arrival and was extricated from the vehicle by the Fire Department, which provided immediate medical treatment.
The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad (C.A.R.S.) is currently examining all aspects of the crash, including whether a medical episode may have occurred prior to the accident.
The driver was transported to Stamford Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Sgt. Jeffrey Booth of C.A.R.S. is leading the investigation into the incident.
Authorities are seeking assistance from the public for any additional information or eyewitness accounts of the crash.
