EAST PROVIDENCE — A local man was arrested on multiple firearms and domestic violence charges following a standoff with East Providence police officers on Oct. 11.
Herlin Perry, 40, was taken into custody after police responded to a call from a family member reporting a domestic disturbance at his home.
According to the East Providence Police Department, officers found Perry in an upstairs bedroom, armed with a firearm and urging officers to shoot him.
He initially refused to obey commands to drop the weapon.
During the incident, a struggle ensued, and officers noted several large capacity magazines in the room.
Perry was eventually subdued and arrested.
Police also found a loaded AR-15 sporting rifle and additional ammunition within reach.
Chief of Police Christopher Francesconi praised his officers for their restraint and professionalism during the volatile situation, which he said prevented potential serious injuries or death.
Perry faces charges, including domestic violence – disorderly conduct, four counts of possession of large capacity feeding devices, carrying a weapon while intoxicated, and resisting arrest.
He was arraigned at the 6th District Court following the incident.
No injuries were reported among the officers, Perry, or other individuals at the scene.
