NEW HAVEN — A two-vehicle crash on US Route 7 near River Rd. resulted in serious injuries for a Middlebury woman and minor injuries for a New Haven passenger on Oct. 11.
Vermont State Troopers responded to the incident at 2:18 p.m. after a 2012 Ford Fusion, driven by 64-year-old Janette Lattrell of Middlebury, turned left onto US Route 7 from a parking lot and collided with a northbound 2018 Ram 2500 operated by 53-year-old Dwight Mazor of Charlotte.
Lattrell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained suspected serious injuries and was transported to UVM Medical Center.
Her passenger, 59-year-old Margaret Pouliot, also not wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Porter Medical Center.
Mazor, who was wearing a seatbelt, and his juvenile passenger were uninjured.
The Ford Fusion sustained significant front end and side contact damage, while the Ram 2500 had front end contact damage.
According to the investigation, Lattrell failed to yield to oncoming traffic, resulting in Mazor’s vehicle striking the Fusion’s driver side door.
The impact caused the Fusion to spin out and come to an uncontrolled rest in the northbound lane, while the Ram stopped in the center of the roadway.
The crash led to a two-hour closure of the affected section of US Route 7, with authorities from the Middlebury Police Department, Middlebury Rescue Squad, New Haven Fire Department, and Middlebury Fire Department assisting at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and Vermont State Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact Trooper Anthony at the New Haven Barracks at 802-388-4919.
