AUBURN — A New York man was arrested Monday after Auburn Police detectives found him with more than $6,000 in counterfeit $100 bills.

The arrest occurred just after 2 p.m. in the Home Depot parking lot at 779 Washington Street, where detectives noticed suspicious behavior.

The man, identified as 36-year-old Carlos Ramirez of Middle Village, New York, was charged with possession of counterfeit notes.

Following the arrest, detectives secured a search warrant for Ramirez’s vehicle and discovered additional counterfeit cash and 17 bags of merchandise.

Authorities believe the items, valued at over $7,000, were purchased with counterfeit money the day before.

The investigation is continuing as detectives collaborate with other agencies and retail stores to trace the fraudulent transactions.

Ramirez was released on $500 bail and appeared in Worcester District Court on Tuesday.
