NORTH HAMPTON — A theft at a local Home Depot led to the arrest of a Derry man on multiple charges, including resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance, authorities said Thursday.

North Hampton Police responded to the Home Depot at 35 Lafayette Road at about 11:53 a.m. after receiving a report of a theft.

Upon arrival, officers encountered Dennis Vassak, who is accused of lunging at a store employee.

Vassak was arrested and now faces charges of attempted theft, resisting arrest, criminal threatening, and possession of a controlled substance.

After processing at the North Hampton Police Department, Vassak was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 12.

During the investigation, officers found multiple items in a U-Haul van believed to be stolen property.

The van is alleged to have been driven by Vassak before entering the store.

Further inquiries connected Vassak to another alleged theft at a Home Depot in Salem on Oct. 9.

After Salem Police attempted to stop the U-Haul van he was driving, Vassak is said to have fled, leading to a terminated pursuit.

Salem Police are now seeking an arrest warrant for Vassak on charges of theft, reckless conduct, and disobeying an officer.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
