WEST WARWICK — After an intense investigation, local police have arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery at a Dollar General store earlier this week.
On the evening of Oct. 8, West Warwick Police Department received a distress call at around 9:11 p.m. from an employee of the Dollar General located at 1029 Main Street.
The employee reported a robbery at gunpoint.
The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, and the initial search for the suspect and the associated vehicle was unsuccessful.
Detectives from the West Warwick Police Department responded to the scene to gather evidence, including video surveillance footage that captured images of the suspect and the vehicle believed to be involved in the crime.
The investigation, a collaborative effort between West Warwick Police Patrol and Detective Division, eventually led to the Town of Coventry, where the suspect’s vehicle was located with the help of the Coventry Police Department.
Through a thorough examination of witness statements and physical evidence, police identified 60-year-old Mark S.
Montefusco of Hopkins Hill Road, Coventry, as the person responsible for the robbery.
Montefusco has been arrested and charged with first-degree robbery.
He is scheduled for arraignment in Third Division District Court later today.
